What is evangelism? Evangelism is simply telling people about Jesus Christ, with the intention to make them choose to accept Him as their Lord and Savior. But, why do we do this? We do evangelism because it is the command of Jesus in Matthew 28:19-20. We do this because there are many people on earth, who do not know anything about Christ. If we don’t tell them, they will be lost forever! We evangelize because we love and obey Christ. We evangelize because it is God’s will for us to preach the Gospel of Christ to the whole world. God loves the world so much (John 3:16).
But, what is the Gospel? The Gospel is also known as Good News. It is Good News because man has a problem. The Bible calls this sin. Sin is our nature, that is always evil. It is sin that makes human beings kill each other, under the banner of religion. Christianity is a religion! People made it into a religion, because mankind is always religious in his nature.
Because of sin, all men are to perish, because all people have sinned naturally (Romans 3:23, 6:23). But God made a way. This way is his Son, Jesus Christ–Gospel. We must accept Jesus as Lord and Savior individually. Discipleship is simple teaching and growing the followers of Jesus Christ after evangelism. So, evangelism and discipleship must go together. We preach or share the Gospel, then we teach those who responded positively to the message of the cross.
- God loves you so much
- You are a sinner–its wages is eternal death
- God has a way to save you–Jesus Christ
- Your will is important for God cannot force anyone to accept the Gospel message
